Biryani Boxes & Takeaway Containers

Foil, plastic or kraft: what to compare when choosing a biryani box

Aluminium foil containers are the traditional biryani box in Pakistan: they hold heat well, go in an oven, and the board lid keeps steam in on a delivery ride. Aluminium cannot go in a microwave, so they suit food that is eaten straight away or reheated in a pan.

The black plastic boxes are listed as microwavable, so a customer can reheat the biryani in the box; the clear lid shows the food and they stack well in a delivery bag. The clear plastic boxes do the same job with a see-through base. Kraft paper boxes give a natural, printed-paper look for brands moving away from plastic; check each product page for the lid and lining before you choose them for wet rice.

Compare four things: the capacity in ml against your portion, whether the lid is included (the product name says "with Lid" where it is), whether your customers reheat in the box, and the price per piece from the table above.

Biryani box sizes: which box for one plate, half kg or one kg

Foil: the F1 (450 ml) holds about half a plate, around 250 g of biryani. The F2 (900 ml) holds one plate, around 700 g, and is the most common single-portion biryani box. The F3 (1100 ml) holds a full plate, around 850 g. The 2-portion and 4-portion foil trays take about half a kg of rice in the main compartment with the other compartments for gravy, raita or salad, or double the rice if you fill them all with biryani.

Plastic and kraft boxes: as a rule of thumb, every 100 ml holds about 75 g of cooked biryani. So a 500 ml box takes around 375 g (a small portion), 750 ml around 550 g (one plate), 1000 ml around 750 g (a full plate), and the square 1500, 2000 and 3000 ml boxes around 1.1 kg, 1.5 kg and 2.25 kg for family and party orders. Capacities are nominal, so check the photo with measurements on each product page; message us with your portion and we suggest the size.

Extras for biryani delivery

Most delivery orders also need kraft dip and sauce containers for raita, disposable cutlery or wooden cutlery, and food bags to carry the order. The round aluminium foil containers (P1, P2, P3) are mainly bakery containers for muffins and small cakes, not biryani boxes.
